OVERVIEW

REALTIME3D is a research project co-funded by the national funding authorities of the participating countries, namely Switzerland, Turkey and Germany under EUROSTARS and the European Commission, for the period 2022-2024.
Critical and important infrastructure elements, such as bridges, viaducts, dams, towers, powerlines and cell towers are exposed to intensive loads, material fatigue, environmental stress & aging process. All these factors cause deteriorations on the construction parts. The goal is to develop a REALTIME 3D inspection system with a stereo camera equipped UAV. The system will generate real-time stereoscopic 3D views in which multiple users can simultaneously visualize, inspect & measure the object.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The project goal is to design and to develop a live stream, multi-user and 3D stereoscopic view based Augmented Reality (AR) software for diverse kinds of inspection tasks.

 

A stereo camera rig as the image acquisition unit will be installed on a UAV. The stereo base length will follow the photogrammetric base-to-height ratio rules in order to get the best network geometry for stereoscopic viewing & mensuration. The UAV system will be operated on-site by an operator, while the inspection will be done simultaneously in-office by the experts/engineers through their VR headsets.

REALTIME3D SYSTEM

Using our innovative AR software, multiple users from multiple locations can connect to the system, and visualize the Object of Interest in 3D stereoscopic view mode with the capability of photogrammetric measurement.

 

REALTIME3D will provide a very rich content and visualization experience much greater than being located at the site itself.

 

The main result of the project will be a stereo camera equipped UAV & an AR based photogrammetry software for real-time inspection of critical infrastructure.

4DX has started as a spin-off company of ETH Zurich in 2009, and now is an independent SME located in Zurich. 4DX offers advanced software & customized solutions for geospatial data acquisition & processing. The main areas of expertise are photogrammetry, remote sensing, reality-based virtual modelling of objects & environments based on image & laser scanning data. Thanks to the scientific knowledge/experiences gained through many years at ETH Zurich, 4DX has a strong algorithmic & theoretic background and also administrative capacity by many internationally performed academic/industrial projects. 4DX will manage the project, design the system and contribute to software development.

Redhorizon Teknoloji A.S.

Red Horizon, a software development company in Istanbul, develops interactive VR/AR/MR experiences built inside immersive artificial environments. With an interdisciplinary team and expertise in both visual arts & computer graphics, we create immersive virtual experiences. We are currently involved in a wide spectrum of sectors including gaming, psychology, automotive and education. Red Horizon will be responsible for the software development.

GGS GmbH

GGS, founded in 1988, develops, integrates & supports systems for various aerial data acquisitions. Aerial cameras as single or multi-sensor setups, oblique imagery, thermal sensors, hyper-spectral scanners and Lidar are the sensors in our portfolio. We also offer mission planning & flight management software designed for perfect interfacing with all of our components. The new section is the development & manufacturing of our own UAV system. Three years ago, we put our UAV AeroSpector on the market followed by AeroSpector-S in the last year. Besides the precise navigation and control of the UAVs, we also develop Gimbals and especially for inspection works a smart Gimbal solution. Besides our branches in Turkey and France, we have a large customer network with strong business/marketing experiences. GGS will be responsible for hardware integration and testing.
